The daily joys of baby care and play are captured in rhyme and illustrations in the first of Carol Casey and Jason Oransky's baby keepsake books.

Editor's Choice

Carol Casey offers a rhyming love letter to the baby girl in this baby keepsake book, which takes parents and children through a fun-filled tour of the joys of baby care.

Whether the baby is dressing up in her mother’s clothes, entertaining her parents with her “carefree baby dances,” or displaying her “generous attitude” by offering to share the food from her tray, the board book succeeds in capturing all of the silly, messy, but always lovable moments in parenting.

A Rhyming Picture Book

According to a blog entry written by Casey on her website, Dear Baby, What I Love About You! was created to help parents celebrate the everyday moments in baby care.

“It is a privilege to witness a brand new soul learning about the world,” writes Casey. “And it isn't the huge milestones that make us fall in love with these new little beings. It's the small ordinary moments that give us little glimpses of their personality and character.”

Writing a picture book, especially one in rhyme, isn’t easy but Casey manages to make her verses both catchy and fun to read – although they can become a bit too precious at times. Still, the rhyming narration works well with Oransky’s colorful illustrations, which offer readers eye-pleasing cartoon-style drawings of the baby and her mother as they play together.

Given the importance of helping children develop early literacy skills today, Dear Baby, What I Love About You! provides parents and teachers a welcome story that they can use to introduce their children to the world of reading.

Storytellers can also sign a “baby yearbook” at the end of Dear Baby, What I Love About You! and provide children with a record of all the people who read the board book to them when they were younger, making it a welcome entry in a family's collection of personalized baby books.

DearBaby Books

Dear Baby, What I Love About You! is published through Casey’s boutique press DearBaby Books, which focuses on publishing books that provide fun and loving connections between parents and their infant or toddler children. What I Love About You! is the first in a series of eight glossy 4-color baby keepsake books for infants and toddlers that will be released in the coming months.

Parents and children who enjoy Dear Baby, What I Love About You! should visit The Official Dear Baby Website, which offers sneak peeks on future Dear Baby board books (including Dear Baby, Let’s Dance! and Dear Baby, Bounce!). This is so cute! I think I still do carefree baby dances and I'm 23, haha. This is going to be a huge hit.
