Sophie's Big Bed helps toddlers make the transition from sleeping in a crib to sleeping in a bed.
Getting toddlers to let go of the security of a crib can sometimes be difficult. In Sophie’s Big Bed by Tina Burke (Kane/Miller Book Publishers, ISBN 978-1-933605-48-7) your toddler will meet a little girl who is not yet sure if she is ready to move from her crib to the big bed. Sophie absolutely loves the comfort of her crib. She loves her comfy banana blanket and her soft star pillow. She loves sleeping in her crib. But now there is a new bed for Sophie. The bed seems so big to her and she isn’t yet sure that she wants to sleep in it. Each night she tests out the big bed. The first night she brings her stuffed bunny toy into the big bed but her bunny is worried that he might get lost under all the covers so they go to sleep in the crib. The next night Sophie brings her stuffed teddy bear with her into the big bed but the teddy bear is worried that he might fall out of the bed, so once again Sophie sleeps in her safe crib. On the third attempt, Sophie brings her rag doll into the big bed with her but the rag doll thought that the banana blanket in the crib was cozier. Sophie and the rag doll go to sleep in the crib. Finally one night, Sophie brings her three friends, bunny, bear, and doll, into the big bed. She shows them that the new bed is so big that all of them can sleep in it together. That night, all four of them snuggle into the big bed and fall fast asleep. Sophie’s Big Bed, part of the Toddler Tales books, is a wonderful soft cover book that parents can use to encourage their toddlers to begin sleeping in a “big” bed. The author, Tina Burke, also does the illustrations for Sophie’s Big Bed. Each page is adorable. The childhood yellows, purples, blues, greens, and pinks are both vibrant and comforting for young children, especially when they are faced with having to sleep in a big bed for the first time. Sophie will show toddlers that it’s actually fun to sleep in a big bed. For one thing, your toddler will have a lot more room to move around. Your toddler will also be able to bring more stuffed animals into her bed to snuggle with during the night. Sophie’s Big Bed is one of those books that will be loved and treasured by both toddlers and parents.
